The WSJ economics blog highlights an Alan Greenspan interview with John Stewart on the Daily Show where he talks a little about market cycles and the difficulty economists face in making forecasts. It’s great to see a conversational Greenspan after wondering what the heck he was saying for the last two decades…
Inflation? David Gaffen posed some interesting thoughts in asking if the Federal Reserve let inflation out of the bag? Seems to me all economic discussion over the months ahead will wrestle with the twin themes of recession and inflation, underpinned by housing and consumer spending. Lots of combinations there… can we stay in the sweet spot of no recession and low inflation?  Don’t know, but David’s quote sums it up: “One’s view of inflation rests on one’s perception of the economy.”
